Heel Touch tutorial
The heel touch is a simple exercise for the side abdominal muscles, performed by crunching sideways. It suits beginners and home workouts.
How to perform
- Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, about 45 to 60 cm apart.
- Place your arms straight at your sides.
- Lift your torso a few centimeters and reach sideways until your right hand touches your right heel.
- Pause for one second and return slowly.
- Repeat to the left side.
- Both sides together count as one rep.
Breathing: Exhale as you reach to the side and inhale as you return.
Key tips
- Keep your lower back pressed to the floor.
- Keep your shoulders loose and your neck free of strain.
- Move slowly and under control.
Common mistakes
- Lifting the heels off the floor.
- Straining the neck.
- Moving too fast without control.
Safety: The range is small; avoid forcing a deep bend to reach your heel. Stop if you feel lower back pain.
